Truth For Today

Who Is Truth?

John 14:6 AMPC

Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.

That settles it.  Jesus Christ, the creator, and sustainer of the universe, claims to be truth.  Those of us who know Him, know that He is the Truth and He tells the truth.  He also claims to be “the Way” and “the Life.”  The Amplified Classic Bible capitalizes Way, Truth, and Life to personify them.  The person of Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The Greek word translated here for “truth” is aletheia” (Strong’s Concordance G227).  Among its meanings, are “of a truth, in reality, in fact, certainly”.  And there is my favorite, “what is true in any matter under consideration.”  As long as I have known Jesus, He has always been what is true in any matter under consideration.

While there are many lies, there is only one truth.  Some well-meaning people, seeking to create unity and seek peace, wrongly state that there are many ways to God.  These people say that if you are sincere in what you believe you are good to go.  Jesus Christ strongly objects to that philosophy.  This objection has gotten His disciples in trouble throughout the ages.  Christians don’t try to be objectionable and provoke people that do not believe John 14:6, but neither will an authentic Christian back down.  The fact that the only way to Father God is through Jesus is non-negotiable for the genuine child of God.

The “way” is translated from the Greek “hodos” (Strong’s Concordance G3598).  The meanings of “hodos” include a “travelled way, road.”  Jesus says I am the road or the travelled way to Papa.  How is this?  Christian doctrine is unequivocal that it is by the blood of Jesus shed on the cross of calvary that we come to Father God and are saved or born-again.  It is a narrow way (Matthew 7:13, 14).  The way to God is believing that Jesus died on the cross as sacrifice for sin and His blood cleanses sin.  Believing this ushers you into the experience of a recreated spirit – the spirit that was dead to God is given life by Holy Spirit’s resurrection power.

The truth that Jesus is the atoning sacrifice for sin is concealed in the Old Testament.  The Old Covenant Law, sacrifices, tabernacle, and feasts are depictions of Jesus Who was to come.  I recommend the book “The Miracle of the Scarlet Thread” by Richard Booker.  Holy Spirit included Jesus in every book of the Bible.  Sometimes it is obvious, sometimes it is not.

The New Testament reveals Jesus as the atoning sacrifice for sin.  The letters of the Apostle Paul to the early churches make it clear.  The books of Romans, Ephesians, and Galatians are just a few of the letters in which he describes the gospel to explain the work of Jesus on the cross and the blood He shed to cleanse sin.  The physician, Luke, records Peter’s statement to the Jewish leaders in the book of Acts. way.

Acts 4:12 AMPC

And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is both very simple and very complicated.  It is simple enough for a small child to hear the message of Jesus and believe and be saved.  Children have a great and beautiful faith.  But is also wildly complex.  As maturing Christians, we study the Bible to learn more and more about the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  We find mysteries that we cannot comprehend without Holy Spirit’s influence.  We find layers of truth in every book, Genesis through Revelation, and often must dig and research to learn what we are being taught.  We find connections between people who lived hundreds of years apart.  We find common ground with nations that were prophesied about hundreds and even thousands of years ago.

If you want the real truth, go to Jesus and just stay there.  Give Him time and opportunity to teach you.  Give Him opportunities to bring divine revelation into your spirit and soul. One of my favorite passages comes from Psalms 1.

Psalm 1:1-3 AMPC

1 Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. 2But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. 3And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].

The book of Joshua has the same thought.

Joshua 1:8 AMPC

This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.
