Truth For Today

What is Truth?

John 17:17 NASB

Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.

This is the first blog post for the Truth For Today website.  The purpose of this site is to provide truth from the Bible in the form of blogs and Bible studies. Last summer, the summer of 2022, many in our great nation were reeling from economic insecurity.  Inflation was raging, the price of food was skyrocketing, and “shrinkflation” was obvious.  In some quarters, people were suggesting that we store up food and water because things were going to get worse.  I was not worried because our little family had been through some very lean times and God had always been utterly and completely faithful to provide for us.  I often quoted one of King David’s declarations from the Psalms concerning God’s provision.

Psalm 37:25 NASB

I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.

Then one day, in the summer of 22, I was reading my Bible and read Psalm 65.  Verses 9 and 13 jumped out at me.

Psalm 65: 9, 13 NASB

9 You visit the earth and water it abundantly, enriching it greatly.  God’s stream was filled with water, for You prepare the earth in this way, providing people with grain.

13 The pastures are clothed with flocks and the valleys covered with grain.  They shout in triumph; indeed, they sing.

I began to think about how it would help so many precious people, world-wide, to hear these words.  And in just an instant, Holy Spirit deposited in me the idea of the Truth For Today website.  The thought I had, roughly translated, was: “Why would you not create a place on the internet to post these encouraging truths to help people?”  Why not, indeed?  Since there really was no good reason to say “no” to this Holy Spirit’s prompting, I began the adventure. The name of the site, Truth For Today, was also just deposited in me by Holy Spirit and I began mentally listing all the topics I could write about and post.  Eventually, I started planning for this website by writing notes in my prayer journal and jotting down topics and scriptures.

One of the important scriptures to write about in a website called “Truth For Today” is written above, John 17:17.  It comes from Jesus’s prayer after the Lord’s supper and before his arrest in Gethsemane. Here are a few more translations.

Being sanctified or set apart for God and our individual destinies is not something we can do for ourselves.  It is a work of grace through faith.  God sent His Holy Spirit-inspired Word to set us apart for Himself.  We must rely on Him and His Word to walk in the fulness of our destiny.  It is the Word of God, the Holy Scriptures, that bring us to holiness or sanctification.  I invited you to join me and embark on this adventure of seeking truth.  Let’s research the Bible.  Let’s study scriptures.  Let’s meditate the Word, let’s memorize verses, let’s write down in our journals and on 3 x 5 cards Holy Spirit’s promptings, let’s declare promises we love and make our heart sing. Let’s dig into the Eternal God’s Word to us – the truth for today.
